New Gig for Antonio Conte

Updated: Jan 6, 2022

With continued poor form from North London club Tottenham Hotspur, Daniel Levy and the rest of the board felt it was time to move on from Nuno Espirito Santo after only 17 games. He has been criticized harshly over the past month about the lack of identity and free-flowing football that was promised from the beginning of his stay at the club, and after a 3-0 loss to Manchester United in Gameweek 10, the board officially had enough. Throughout his short-lived 4 month stay, he tallied only 15 points from 10 games in the premier league and the club currently sits in 9th. In addition, Spurs lie 3rd in their respective group of the Europa Conference League and need a 2nd place finish to qualify them for the knockouts.

With this opening for the Spurs job, Antonio Conte quickly became the favorite to replace Nuno as he was without a club since he parted ways with Inter last season. Following these rumors, the club announced on the morning of November 2nd that Conte will officially be their next manager.

Conte is highly rated having experience as Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan boss, picking up countless league trophies along the way. It has been rumored that he will receive a $175m transfer budget, but with the likes of Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, and Tanguy Ndombele, it is hard-pressed to think that their biggest problems are in the quality of the squad. An argument can be made for a couple of new defenders being needed (specifically in the center back position considering Conte is a frequent advocate for the 3-5-2), but repairs in his backline certainly wouldn't cost him his entire budget allowing him the freedom to spend on some possible stars.

Although the Spurs job is a tough task to take on for any manager, the clubs fans seem to be delighted and hopeful by this decision which has been an unfamiliar feeling for them over the past couple of months. It's hard to say how the team will do but with a plethora of talent in the squad (including some possible incoming stars), and an abundance of managerial experience, a comeback during the second half of the season could be in the cards.
